Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long Beach, California on 24 August 1972. DuVernay received support from her Aunt Denise when she was an infant. Her aunt was a nurse, who did night shifts to ensure that she could devote her days to theatre and literature as well as art. The aunt introduced DuVernay the 1961 movie West Side Story and DuVernay was captivated by it. DuVernay was instructed by her mom that art can be used to promote activism. DuVernay learned to be socially mindful by her mother. DuVernay was raised living with family members in Compton was a summer resident in Lowndes County Alabama in the residence of her father's parents. Her father recalled watching the Civil Rights Movement's historic march along the Edmund Pettus Bridge near the town of Selma Alabama. The summers she spent in Alabama's Selma be the inspiration for her later a film about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay graduated with a graduation certificate in Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. In the year 1990 she was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. DuVernay discovered a passion for journalistic broadcasting while in school. She began her career as an intern at CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson Trial. DuVernay was told to take a look at the junk of the home of a juror. Her work left her dissatisfied by journalism and she decided to move towards the industry of public relations. DuVernay got a job right from college, working as a young publicist for a studio. She was promoted to the position and set up her own PR company called The DuVernay Agency in 1999. Alongside PR, her agency launched a number of marketing and lifestyle platforms, such as Urban Beauty Collective, the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
